Agent IDE Plugins

Last updated Oct 11, 2026100% grounded

Overview

What are Agent IDE Plugins

Agent IDE plugins connect Mem0's persistent memory and cross-session context directly to your favorite AI coding environments. By integrating memory capabilities into editors and coding assistants, these plugins allow your tools to remember project knowledge, decisions, constraints, workflows, and bug fixes across different coding sessions and devices.

Supported coding environments and platforms include:

  • Claude Code
  • Cursor
  • Codex
  • Kimi
  • OpenCode
  • Pi
  • OpenClaw
  • Hermes
  • Antigravity

Note

Most plugins require a Mem0 Platform API key to authenticate and sync memories securely via cloud storage. Alternatively, self-hosted open-source backends are supported by specific plugins where configured.

Key Concepts

Understanding how memory operates within your coding environment helps you get the most out of your assistant:

  • Auto-Recall: Automatically fetches relevant memories based on your current prompt or workspace, injecting them into the agent's context window before it answers.
  • Auto-Capture: Automatically stores useful conversation context, decisions, and outcomes after each agent turn or when a session ends.
  • Scoping: Organizes memories by context level so your agent searches the right information. Scopes include project-specific knowledge (project), single session state (session), or workspace-wide preferences (global).
  • Coding Categories: Tags and organizes memories into specific buckets such as project knowledge, decisions and constraints, workflows, problems and fixes, and results.

Connecting Your Coding Environment

Setup and Configuration

Follow the steps below to configure and use Mem0 within supported AI coding environments.

1. Obtain Your API Key

  1. Go to the Mem0 Dashboard to create or retrieve your API key.
  2. Copy your unique API key string (typically starting with m0- or sk-).

2. Configure Environment Variables

Set your API key as an environment variable so your IDE plugin can automatically detect it.

Supported environment variables for authentication keys:

  • MEM0_API_KEY
  • OPENAI_API_KEY
  • ANTHROPIC_API_KEY
  • MEM0_HOST
  • MEM0_PLUGIN_API_KEY

3. Install and Enable the Plugin

Depending on your chosen coding environment, install the Mem0 integration package or extension from your editor's extension marketplace or plugin manager. Once installed, the plugin initializes automatically when you start a coding session or open a project workspace.

Usage and Commands

Memory Tools and Commands

Once connected, coding agent plugins provide specialized tools and interactive commands to help you manage your long-term memories.

Built-in Memory Tools

Your coding agent has direct access to memory tools to search and store facts dynamically:

  • Search: Queries past repository decisions, bug fixes, and workflows using natural language.
  • Add: Saves durable facts, user preferences, or completed changes.
  • Update / Delete: Modifies or removes outdated memories by ID.

Interactive CLI and Slash Commands

Many plugins provide interactive commands that you can type directly into your coding assistant's terminal or chat interface:

CommandDescription
/mem0-remember <text>Store a memory verbatim without running inference.
/mem0-search <query>Perform a semantic search across your stored memories.
/mem0-forget <query>Find and delete memories matching a natural language query.
/mem0-tour [scope]Browse all memories grouped by category for a given scope.

Tips and Warnings

Tip

Be Proactive: You do not need to wait to be asked to remember things. When you establish a project constraint, prefer a specific tool, or make a major architectural decision, tell your agent to save it.

Warning

Extraction Timing: When you store a fact using a tool, server-side extraction may run asynchronously. Do not immediately search for a freshly written fact expecting it to appear in milliseconds.

Caution

Credential Safety: Never paste plaintext API keys directly into shared configuration files or public repositories. Use environment variables or designated secure storage references for all sensitive keys.
