## Overview

Connecting custom domains and configuring branding allows you to use your own domain name for short links, partner program pages, and email communications. Instead of sharing generic links, your brand takes center stage, increasing trust and click-through rates.

Depending on your needs, you can connect a custom domain you already own, use a fast testing subdomain, or claim a free domain included with your plan. This guide explains how to connect domains, verify ownership through DNS settings, set up automatic configuration, and forward instructions to technical team members.

## Connecting a Custom Domain

### Overview
You can bring a custom domain or subdomain that you already own to your workspace.

### Adding Your Domain
1. Navigate to your workspace **Settings** and select **Domains**.
2. Click **Add custom domain** and choose **Connect a domain you own**.
3. Enter your domain name (for example, `links.yourbrand.com` or `yourbrand.link`) and save.

> [!NOTE]
> If you are on the Free plan, certain branding features such as custom QR code logos, default expiration URLs, not found URLs, Asset Links, Apple App Site Association, and Deep View require upgrading to a Pro plan or higher.

## DNS Verification and Configuration

### Overview
Once your domain is added, you need to configure your Domain Name System (DNS) provider to point your domain to the software and verify ownership.

### Choosing Your DNS Record Type
Depending on whether you are using a root domain (apex domain like `yourbrand.com`) or a subdomain (`links.yourbrand.com`), you will need to configure either an **A Record** or a **CNAME Record**:

| Record Type | Host / Name | Target Value | Recommended For |
| :--- | :--- | :--- | :--- |
| **A** | `@` | `76.76.21.21` | Apex / root domains (e.g. `yourbrand.com`) |
| **CNAME** | `www` or subdomain | `cname.dub.co` | Subdomains (e.g. `links.yourbrand.com`) |

### Automatic Configuration via Domain Connect
If your DNS provider supports Domain Connect (such as Cloudflare or Vercel), you can configure your DNS settings automatically with a single click:
1. Go to your domain configuration screen in your workspace settings.
2. Click the auto-configure or automatic setup button if available.
3. Follow the prompts on your provider's login screen to authorize and apply the required DNS records automatically.

### Manual DNS Verification
If automatic configuration is not supported by your DNS provider, set the records manually in your DNS host's dashboard using the values provided in your domain settings page. A verification **TXT** record may also be required to confirm your domain ownership.

> [!TIP]
> If you need to hand off DNS configuration steps to a colleague or IT administrator, you can use the built-in instruction forwarder to email the exact DNS record requirements directly to any email address.

## Managing Domain Redirects and Fallbacks

### Overview
You can customize how visitors experience your domain when they visit pages that do not have active short links:
- **Default Expiration URL**: Set a destination where visitors are redirected if they try to access an expired short link.
- **Not Found URL**: Define a fallback page when someone visits a short link path that doesn't exist on your domain.
- **Root Domain Welcome Page**: Visitors navigating directly to your root domain will see a branded welcome page unless a custom redirect or target is specified.
